My policy on hubs, centres, and networks

Within universities there are many excellent initiatives that encourage scholars to act beyond the straightforward work of research and teaching, and to think in global terms about the role of knowledge in society at large.

These virtual organisations can bring diverse perspectives into dialogue, and create a space for alt-ac exploration as well as advocacy and activism.

I have been an fervent participant in such initiatives in the past, but given my current commitments, I am unable able to bring the requisite energy or creativity to these kinds of groups for the time being.

I don’t want to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm with my non-participation. These are simply my real limits and boundaries.

For now I am committed to academic service through my participation in my university’s Research Ethics Committee (the Australian equivalent of an IRB), book prize judging, and peer-review processes.

Outside of university, I am a volunteer for Lifeline.
